SIT Centrestage was originally known as the State Insurance Theatre and officially opened in 1978.
Since then the theatre has been sold twice and gone through some structural changes before being gifted by the Invercargill Theatre Trust to the Southern Institute of Technology in 2008.
The theatre is available for private hire with a 309 seating capacity: with unobstructed views it has become the hired venue of choice for a wide range of clients.
Centrestage is a wonderful asset to Invercargill. Located in the heart of the city, it hosts a varied programme from the Southern Institute of Technology students, including the drama, music and film.
We frequently host local school productions, ballet and dance performances, as well as many other events from stage productions to corporate lectures.
